CASE STUDY

Injection Moulded Parts for Guitar Amps

Client:

The Vintage Amporium

Location:

Hampshire

Context:

Amey Plastics was approached by The Vintage Amporium for an injection moulding project.

The Vintage Amporium restore vintage guitar amps and had decided to branch out into supplying parts and speaker cabs. The opportunity arose for the customer to purchase the original 1960s’ mould to make the corner protectors for 1960s Vox amps. Having purchased and imported the mould, they needed somebody to make the corner feet.

The challenge was that the mould was nearly 70 years old and came with no technical data.

Unsurprisingly, the early mouldings had a bit of ‘flash’ on them, but after tweaking the set-up we are now able to produce batches that are clean and tidy.

Processes:

  • Open the tool and clean all surfaces and clear any blockages in runner systems and waterways

  • Initial trial of the tool

  • Finesse runner system to support a balanced shot producing a set of family parts

  • Invite customer to visit to assess and approve

  • Produce, pack and ship customer’s order

Outcome:

  • The customer took a calculated risk to relocate an unseen and old mould tool to the UK to have better control of the order and supply process. Within 2 weeks, Amey Plastics had successfully adapted the tool for ongoing production and satisfied the customer’s first order.

  • Result: A happy customer!

Testimonial:

"Amey Plastics was really helpful and easy to work with and the resulting parts are top quality. I’m really happy that with Amey Plastics’ help, I could make these parts available again following the closure of the previous owner’s business in the US. I now sell them online to vintage Vox enthusiasts for the restoration of vintage Vox gear. The feedback from customers has been really positive." – David Wheatley (Director)
